Causes of Bubbles in Road Markings

The air bubbles in road markings can be caused by many factors. Here are a few possible reasons:

1. Moisture: Moisture will be trapped underneath the marking material if paint is constructed during humid or rainy weather. In the process of construction, the moisture in wet pavement will be affected by hot steam, and bubbles will also be generated.

2. Pollution: If there is dirt, dust or other pollutants on the road surface when construct the road marking, it can lead to the bubbles.

3. Improper surface treatment: Before construct the road markings, the road surface was not properly painted with primer, if the primer of the thermoplastic marking paint is not completely dried during construction, the solvent will not completely volatilize, and then bubbles will be generated when it is exposed to high temperature.

4. Improper application method: If the material is applied too thick or too thin, or the application method is inconsistent, paint will blister.

5. Special road conditions: The coating on new road is easier to have bubbles. The surface structure of new road is not dense and porous, so when hot-melt marking paint is applied on it, the air inside will expand when heated, which will produce bubbles.

6. Temperature: when the paint is heated to 200 degrees, it will take 3-8 seconds to dry thoroughly. In these few seconds, the air in the road gap will be heated and expanded, resulting in bubbles.

By identifying and addressing the cause of bubbles in road markings, it is possible to prevent them from occurring and ensure that the markings are effective and long-lasting.
